There are tons of piano chord books out there and more specifically on professional chords and smooth chord progressions but there is a very big problem with 98% of these resources! There is also alot of piano learning software on the same subject. Most of these so called guides are based on old school teaching techniques that have been outdated decades ago, it’s almost as if the general consensus is that you have to play for at least a couple of years before you can play decent piano. This is however not the case with some of the newer piano learning software.

I was having this discussion with one of my friends who happens to be a piano teacher the other day and we very quickly agreed that even though you couldn’t learn to play perfect piano chords in a couple of days, you could do it far faster than what the majority of people actually do just by having the right piano learning software. As you might have learned from reading my articles on my site one of my favorite piano learning software courses out there is Rocket Piano. You can use it anywhere and anytime you like and it’s a probably the cheapest and most long term solution you can choose if you want to learn how to play piano. If you are serious about wanting to learn piano I can definitely recommend rocket piano.

Just the other day I was talking with a couple of piano enthusiasts about how many years of private piano lessons it would take before you were able to play and continue your piano development on your own.

Everyone agreed that the time line would be different from person to person but there were some common denominators that could greatly help. Before you can play on your own and continue honing your skills you would need a good foundation of music theory. In my last post I talked about how my friend who today is an advanced piano player had accelerated his learning dramatically by using the rocket piano learning program. Today I will talk a little about my own experience with learning piano and the piano learning software/s that helped me along my musical journey.

When I first decided that I wanted to learn to play the piano I was incredibly fascinated by the concept of piano sight reading. For those of you who don’t know what sight reading is, it is basically learning to memorize other people’s musical compositions through musical notation. However I quickly realized that sight reading was a very tedious process and it didn’t automatically enable me to play by ear as I had initially thought.

I started looking for a teacher who could help me before I lost all motivation and felt completely overwhelmed. I never found a teacher but instead I found a program that apparently had found the easy and “reverse” way of learning to sight read. Apparently they taught you to build a foundation using chords, patterns, riffs and chord embellishments and then teach you to play by ear and sight read along the way.

I was intrigued to say the least and I tried the program and I can honestly say that within 2 months my piano skills had changed dramatically.
